Math Mammoth is one of Cathy Duffy's Top Picks for the homeschool curriculum. Duffy says, "Math Mammoth is an amazingly well-developed program for such a reasonable price." We couldn't agree more!

"What I like most is that it focuses on number sense, mental math and learning that there is often more than one way to approach a math problem. The table of contents and layout makes it very easy to skip around or find what topics that you want to teach. There are plenty of problems and while we only do about 1/3 of them until mastery is demonstrated, you could easily spiral back for review or do more problems when it was a difficult concept.." Jennifer. Hmmmm....

Although I love how math mammoth walks you through HOW to think through a problem, it is getting very confusing for my 5th grader who has for the prior years did abeka math. Abeka math only teaches one or two ways to work over problems. So although abeka will get you to the right answer it doesn't seem to help the student see all the applications of math problems. Math mammoth does the opposite where you spend time knowing all the ways to work a problem and then you can decide what works best for the way you think through math problems. I consider neither to be wrong (abeka vs math mammoth) but math mammoth wins out to me bc it explains HOW I think math.
