What if you were attacked by something you didn't believe in?

Look Inside the Book or Listen on Canon+

Rodney, abandoned by his mother at his weird uncle Ray's, encounters a demon named Birthless and must figure out his uncle's secret while preserving himself, his newfound friends, and a sleepy Alabama town from destruction. Strays is an unusual YA adventure story that's part C.S. Lewis's Screwtape Letters and part Tom Sawyer. The focus of the book isn't on simple lessons, but is instead the story of a lonely boy realizing that there is more to the heavens than stars, more to books than facts, and more to his Uncle Ray than tie-dye shirts and honeybees.

Canonball Books is the children's imprint of Canon Press. At Canonball, we believe stories are soul food, so you can expect excitement, danger, loyalty, virtue, and family in your Canonball books. Feed your kids the right books!

What People Are Saying:

"What’s not to love about this debut novel from Remy Wilkins? Replete with a brilliant concept, fast‐moving plot twists and turns, memorably quirky characters, and crisp writing. This is a delightful, creative romp. Highly recommended.” -George Grant, author and pastor in Franklin, Tennessee

"Evoking C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters, Wilkins’ debut novel portrays cleverly named demonic characters who converse, plot, and war against angels, earthly beings, and even critters who are subject to 'The Name.'" -Mary Jackson, WORLD Magazine

READER REVIEWS:

"This was great! We bought it for our ten year old son for Christmas and we all ended up totally sucked in and read in three days! Super engaging plot, cleverly written with great lessons to be learned without being the least bit preachy. Loved it." -Wendy

"This is a very good first book by Remy Wilkins. I read it aloud to the family and all the kids, 11-15, and my wife and I really enjoyed the story. Really interesting take on the powers of darkness in the physical world and yet without the gratuitousness of most stories involving the demonic that it can't be read to a younger audience." -Brandon

Dark and Captivating

I've been reading this to my boys and we've and its been a dark and sticky ride. My daughters have joined in on the night reading. The covering of dark and difficult material and human brokenness has lead to great conversations. Great Book, would recommend.

After realizing Cannonball press is a subset of Cannon Press, I'll be buying my kids books from here instead of amazon.

My daughter loved Strays

My 12 year old daughter, for whom it is pulling teeth to get her to read, kept reading Strays without prodding on my part at all. She really like it.

A Great Story

Was recommended this book at Canon's vendor booth at the ACCS conference as I was looking to purchase good books for my school's library. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading it, but it kept me interested all the way through the end. Glad I purchased it and will be recommending it to my students.
