Title: Bundle: Gashmu Saith It, In the House of Tom Bombadil, It’s Good to Be a Man

God calls men to take dominion. But what does that look like?

Dominion is a huge word—one so vast that comprehending it takes a lifetime—but it is vital that we start on that path to maturity. The Dominion Bundle features three new releases on this pivotal topic:

Despite it being the first command in the Bible, most men don’t know what “filling the earth and subduing it” means on the practical level beyond “I need a wife so I can get started.” It's Good to Be a Man: A Handbook for Godly Masculinity shows how this late-blooming approach to dominion fails to capitalize on the God-given strengths of masculinity. Authors Foster and Tennant take practical, biblical advice on dominion to the next level: Why did God give men such powerful sex drives? How does a young man gain maturity and respect? How does Satan love to sabotage young men? Why does lack of mission and brotherhood cause many men to struggle in life and in marriage? How do you get mission and brotherhood?

Gashmu Saith It: How to Build Christian Communities that Save the World is a book with a weird title because that’s what the unbelieving world thinks of the Christian-community-centered approach to dominion: a little weird, even cult-y. In Gashmu Saith It, Doug Wilson has captured a lifetime of principles for building Christian communities that will save the earth—not through our own dominion, but through God’s. It’s the book for every family in the church to know why we all are doing what we’re doing in the moments we’re not worshipping together.

• In the House of Tom Bombadil takes a different approach to dominion as C.R. Wiley unlocks one of the mostly enigmatic characters in English literature…Tom Bombadil. Why did Tolkien include him? Well, turns out Bombadil is the key to understanding the Lord of the Rings itself…and more than that, Tom Bombadil is central to Tolkien’s view of dominion. And JRR’s view should be yours.

Fittingly, these three books in the Dominion Bundle are legacy-style hardbacks: cloth-wrapped hardbacks with foil embossing for IT’S GOOD TO BE A MAN and GASHMU SAITH IT, matte laminate casewrap with a half-band jacket for IN THE HOUSE OF TOM BOMBADIL.

Read more about the books below:

It's Good to Be a Man:

Our modern society has called for us to “smash the patriarchy,” and the church has not done much better. Instead of telling men how they can hone and refine their aggressive traits, the church has told men that they should aspire to be meek servant-leaders, and when a man shows any signs of independence, he is shown the door. In this book, Michael Foster and Bnonn Tennant remind men that their natural aggressive instincts are gifts from God that are meant to be used for the kingdom. Men are supposed to found households, join brotherhoods, and work towards a mission. It's Good to Be A Man offers men a quick guide to where they are and how they can improve.

Gashmu Saith It:

"When Nehemiah was leading the Jews in their project of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, the enemies of Israel mocked them and said, “It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words” (Neh. 6:6). Today we see a culture that is increasingly hostile to Christians, and Christians are increasingly aware that they need to form strong communities to do for them what the culture no longer can. This is a good thing, but it will only work if like Nehemiah and his men we are committed to resisting the dictates of our culture. In this short book, Pastor Douglas Wilson describes some of the most important ways to create and maintain counter-cultural Christian communities.

In the House of Tom Bombadil:

What is Tom Bombadil doing in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings? His bright blue coat and yellow boots seem out of place with the grandeur of the rest of the narrative. In this book, C.R. Wiley shows that Tom is not an afterthought but Tolkien’s way of making a profoundly important point. Tom Bombadil and his wife Goldberry are a small glimpse of the perfect beauty, harmony, and happy ending that we all yearn for in our hearts.  To understand Tom Bombadil is to understand more of Tolkien and his deeply Christian vision of the world.

These have rightly re-oriented my life and helped see the way out of the generational pattern of abdication and worrisome hesistation which I inherited. The next generation of my family will understand dominion AND see an example in person, thanks to the work of the Holy Spirit through these works and their companions by Wilson, Wiley, and Foster. I am buying these and giving them out, because I want men to know what their calling and desires are for and to have them realized!
