Who are you when the teeth come out?

For every true act of leadership, there is an equal and monstrous act of sabotage.

Look Inside the Book

Our leaders have been entirely routed by the agitated and the anxious. These emotional tyrannies manifest themselves in local libraries, HR cubicles, elder meetings, and at your Thanksgiving dinners.

In this book Professor Joe Rigney seeks to recover the nerve of old that steadied leaders to make tough calls. The nerve that braces them when sabotage comes--because it will. The nerve that has more fun than its enemies.

Cheer up, there's no way out but through.

People Are Saying:

"Outstanding...Biblical leadership for the unique cultural moment we’re in. It will challenge you.”~Andrew T. Walker, Associate Professor of Christian Ethics and Public Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

“Weak leaders often fail by a failure of nerve (especially by fearing to take stands at the risk of displeasing people). In this book Joe explains what a leader should do when people are highly reactive and anxious and combustible—like a gas leak that can explode with just a spark.”~Andy Naselli —Professor of Systematic Theology and New Testament for Bethlehem College and Seminary in Minneapolis and one of the pastors of The North Church

“A critical and sobering read for fathers and organizational leaders. With pinpoint accuracy Rigney diagnoses the chaotic ethos of our age and draws from the wellspring of Scriptural wisdom to reintroduce joyful and steadfast leadership in Christ.”~Jeremy Tate, CEO of the Classical Learning Test

"In a day when an egalitarian spirit has flattened any respect for authority and the most miserable member is consoled most and considered first by unassuming leaders, Leadership and Emotional Sabotage is necessary reading. Senior pastors would do well to read a copy, and they would do better to read this book with their fellow elders, ministers, or church leaders. On the topic of emotional sabotage, this short book by Joe Rigney provides a neon sign that explains much of the inexplicable challenges pastors face in our anxious age. Take up, read, and share."~David Schrock (PhD, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary), pastor of preaching and theology at Occoquan Bible Church in Woodbridge, Virginia

Great book packed with nuggets of biblical and practical wisdom.

A great book packed with nuggets of biblical and practical wisdom. The first chapter spends time discussing concepts from Shakespeare that were meant to give understanding to the content of the book. I feel this was unnecessary - the book's wisdom stood on its own. Otherwise, it was an excellent book that we will be using for leadership development at our church going forward.

I liked the title. It seems to fit the content.

Joe did a good job explaining his assessment and solution for leadership with men. The beginning starts out a bit slow and difficult to really grab hold of the plot, but as you keep reading it starts to fit in place.

SUPER BOOK!

I have read and reread this several times. I have also heard Dr. Rigney speak on it too. This book is a MUST read for all who are in leadership. But it is also a MUST read for all church members, parents, teachers, and students. So basically everyone should read this. Our men at our church are reading it this summer and I expect it will have a great impact on our church. Thank you for the great book.

Necessary Call to Faithful Leadership

I have passed this out to all my elders, many future elders, and even led a local group of automotive dealership leaders through this book.
If only someone could get a copy of this into every pastor, businessman, and politican, we would turn this sinking ship of a nation around.

Great Book

We bought for all the elders at our church, and then bought another 20 copies for our wives and other people in the church.

Biblical, practical, and addresses our current situation.

One of the Most Important Books on Christian Leadership

I'm going to be recommending this book to a lot of pastors, fathers, and Christian leaders. Biblical, insightful, and impactful.

A Must Read for Church Leadership

This book is worthy of a formal review. But for this purpose, I will only say that this is a must read for any in church leadership. I intend to take my elders and deacons through it for years to come.

Practically though, anyone I believe would benefit from the simple and practical lessons communicated in classic Rigney style.

Read and enjoy and read again.
