I listened to this book on the Canon+ app. For the longest time, I avoided this book because of the title. I didn’t want to hear another “singleness is a gift” message when I genuinely want to be married (and not in some idolatrous way- but in the way that I recognise what marriage is and what marriage is for and as a Christian, wanting to do that in obedience to God). Anyway, I eventually thought well, let’s hear what Nancy Wilson has to say, and I finally listened to the book on a long drive somewhere and boy oh boy had I been missing out! This book is a treasure! One of, if not the most helpful book I’ve read on the subject. As an unmarried young lady, I was exhorted by her practical application of God’s word on what to do in my current state of being unmarried in order to grow in the Lord, and build myself up for what’s coming so I can succeed and honour God in every way, and hopefully someday as a wife. I also very much appreciated her advice on some issues such as answering people’s questions who are curious on why you’re unmarried, how to accept or kindly reject invitations by young men, parental involvement and honouring parents, the importance of physical beauty too, being realistic etc etc. I loved this book.
One more word about the title. I know it wasn’t just me. After listening to the book, I encouraged a friend to read it and she, just like me pushed back because of the title. But after reading it she told me how much she enjoyed it and what an encouragement it was. Please change the title if you can- The book really urges unmarried people to continue to build God’s kingdom in their covenant community as they wait for marriage and addresses many practical issues for unmarried people from a biblical standpoint. This is not a book for people who truly have the gift of celibacy.
Also I love her take in the introduction about the word “single”. There is no such thing as single. We’re all in a family- whether it is your family of origin through the marriage covenant, or the covenant family of God through your baptism. I wish she would have stuck to that and used the term unmarried throughout the book. Loved the book. Highly highly recommend it. Don’t let the title out you off.

It’s the best book I’ve read on singleness. I recommended it to a friend because I found it so helpful. I also think even married women can learn from Nancy Wilson in this book.

This is what I’ve been looking for a long time. Someone to speak into my life as a single woman and giving me concrete ways to be satisfied in my singleness. Also getting myself prepared to be married was very eye opening. So thank you Nancy Wilson thank you.

Excellent book!!

I read the title out loud and had an unmarried friend tell me it sounded like a great book. After reading the first two chapters online, I agreed and bought it for her for Christmas. The packaging was nice too. Didn’t even have to wrap it.

I bought this book for my friend and I to go through together, we are about half way through it and loving it.
It is reminding us where our focus needs to be, and what our perspective and our attitudes as unmarried Christian woman ought to be.
