What if you found a magic walnut that magically cleaned up your house? Would you get as many of them as you could?

Look Inside the Book or Listen on Audible*

This short and imaginative collection of eighteen fairy tales by Peter Leithart is perfect for bedtime reading. Each tale invokes the imagery, plots, and themes of the book of Proverbs. Whether its the story of the fairies that live in walnuts or of the man who never got out of bed, these stories will make you laugh. Though you may be tempted to read deep theological meaning into each story, in reality they owe their origin to Peter Leithart telling his kids stories before bed. Perfect for the family.

What People Are Saying:

"I warmly recommend this as a great resource for families." -Justin Taylor, The Gospel Coalition

From the Book:

"The squirrel shook his tail for a moment. 'Sir, I will make a deal with you.' 'What kind of deal can you make?' the Woodsman laughed. 'If you promise not to cut down my tree, I will tell you an amazing secret. I promise you, this secret is worth more than any tree, much, much more." -The Magic Walnut

"His chance came later on a moonless summer night. Unaware of the danger, King Abraham had taken his best men into the forest for two weeks of hunting. The castle had been left under the protection of the fat butler and the thin cook, who, though sturdy and brave, were no match for a cunning and powerful dragon." -A Reluctant Rescue

"One day a man appeared at Adam's Garden. 'I am an inspector from the Ministry of Nasty Smells,' he said, wrinkling his nose in disgust. 'We have had some complaints about your garden.' This was a town, you see, that took its gardening seriously." -The Fragrant Garden

A Great Christmas Gift!

We gifted this to our 9 year old son and he absolutely loves it! Proverbs is such a powerful book for kids to read (especially young men) and he's soaking up all the wisdom that God has to give him. Leithart offers these helpful stories that are undergirded by Biblical truth that is perfect for young minds to soak up.

Great Family Read Aloud

We have enjoyed reading this book aloud and discussing all the tie-ins from scripture, making connections and making conversations! It’s been very enjoyable. There are a few typos on the book, but the overall content is great!

Rich and entertaining

Leithart is a witty story teller. Apart from moral lessons, the stories are loaded with biblical allusions and gospel-shaped typology. My one disappointment was Toby Sumpter’s reading. His reading is not as good as his preaching. We found it a bit indistinct at times. Maybe it was his unfamiliar accent that contributed to this.

Wise and WONDERFUL words!!

The wise words (audio) book has been such a blessing to our family. All the members love listening to the wonderful stories told that are saturated with Biblical truth and morals from the Proverbs. I am especially fond of the chapter called Bleeding Tree because it is a beautiful picture of how God works in our lives- it also makes me cry in a joyful-longing sort of way! 😅

Stories of Wisdom

I am reading these stories to my wife and children regularly. My kids listen intently as these stories create visuals that bring the Proverbs to life. These aren't "feel good" stories as modern culture likes it, but they're good, loving, and well written and do the Scriptures justice. Well done.
