This is how you can teach your kids Latin.
Where are the pronunciation keys? Are there CDs or DVDs or videos showing how to actually say the words?
Hi there! There is a pronunciation key in the Teacher's Guide on pp. 6-7. There is also a pronunciation video for Kraken latin at mycanonplus.com. If the printed pronunciation key is not enough, we encourage you to check out the video there.
I like the way it is organized. We will start learning as a family in the new year. It appears to be laid out for just about anyone to pick up the materials and learn/teach the subject.
We haven't been able to use it yet, but for first impressions this is a beautiful and very well organized curriculum! I was especially impressed with the teacher's guide which is all in color along with the student workbook. Each lesson guide is explained for the teacher in succinct, easy-to-read bullet points (not lengthy paragraphs!), and organized into an appropriate amount of days that it might take for a student to complete the lesson. Additionally the answer keys for the student worksheets and tests is located right next to its respective lesson guides; so helpful as it means I don't have to be flipping back and forth between my teacher's notes and an answer key! For someone with no Latin experience (but who's willing to learn), this curriculum makes learning Latin accessible not only for young children but for their parents as well.
I'm hoping to use these for my 2nd grader as well as use the flash cards to scale it down as best as I can for my 4 yr old, who is always eager to do 'school' with her older sister.
I was so excited to use this with my daughter and it did not disappoint. She loved it and I loved it! However, there were multiple errors/editing problems. For instance, they would have a word in the story that could not be found in the dictionary in the back or the definition in the back didn't match up with the definition in the text. As a Latin nerd myself, those things irked me. I will still be recommending it to others. Hopefully, future editions will fix these problems. I think this would recommend this for grades 4-6.
My boys ages 11, 9, and 7 love this program so far! My older two are filling in their Student Texts, while my youngest boy is my "Helper" and sits next to me during lessons. The program was intimidating at first, as we are all new to the Latin language in general, but this program has made it much less intimidating, and actually fun! I love the way the lessons are grouped by theme, such as "numbers", "body parts", etc.
This program has made the task of learning Latin so much fun, and I am so thankful!
Storybook Latin Year 1 Package
I homeschool my two boys (8 & 10). The Storybook Latin lesson is their favorite part of the day! With two elementary school “boys” that love learning Latin, you know the program has to be fantastic!
