Look Inside the Book or Listen on Audible*

The book of Ecclesiastes is confusing to many believers, who see it as a debate between an untrustworthy nihilist and a genuinely wise man who trust in God instead of giving way to despair. However, Douglas Wilson takes issue with this interpretation, arguing that the author of Ecclesiastes is looking at the world with biblically informed vision. Because God is sovereign and will one day judge all men and restore the world, believers can work, rejoice, marry, eat, and worship God in hope.

What People Are Saying:

"Most Christians view the book of Ecclesiastes as an enigma, a puzzle from which we might draw a few aphorisms but little else. Douglas Wilson's fresh, lucid treatment of this wonderful book enables us to see that its message is not a confused riddle but an incisive indictment of the wisdom of this world." — Steve Wilkins, pastor of Auburn Avenue Presbyterian Church, Louisiana

Excellent

This book is sort of introductory, yet quite comprehensive too. I particularly enjoyed Wilson showing the breakdown of the book into four main movements and also pointing out the thematic structure that holds the four movements together. This actually helped me memorise much of Ecclesiastes as the message was easy to follow with his breakdown. I also very much appreciate Wilson’s practical application of the book. It was a helpful aide to remember who God is, who I am, and how to live fearfully and joyfully before the LORD who reigns over every square inch of the cosmos. This book would be my first choice to recommend if someone wanted a good commentary on Ecclesiastes. Thank you Douglas Wilson for your faithful writing. It has helped me tremendously.
