What People Are Saying

"The pleasing sequencing in Penguin Sets Sail will have children readily interpreting  the pictures, making connections to the story and the characters. This picture book is an excellent choice for any young storyteller or story time listener." -The Children's Book Review

Penguin Sets Sale is a sweet story of exploration and friendship, of imagination and the hopes of home.” -S. D. Smith, author of The Green Ember Series

Penguin Sets Sail is a sweet, silent adventure that plays out in a cinematic and almost musical manner. Jessica Linn Evans's lovely watercolor paintings provide a vast, vibrantly colored landscape for the reader’s mind to wander as they help create the story in their mind.” -Joe Sutphin, illustrator of New York Times bestseller Word of Mouse by James Patterson and Andrew Peterson’s Wingfeather Saga

“I’ve always loved penguins, and sea voyages, and I loved this book! A delightfully illustrated wordless story that says a lot with a little: the value of curiosity over complacency, the joy of travel and the friendships we forge along the way; how new experiences enrich and change us, so that when we finally return home we’re not quite the same person (or penguin) we were before we left.” -Eric Fan of the Fan Brothers, authors and illustrators of the award-winning The Night Gardener, Amazon’s best book of the year (2016)

Penguin Sets Sail is beautifully imagined and wonderfully executed in sprawling scenes, bright and full of joy. A story told without words, the pages invite parents and children to join in the storytelling so that the adventure will be unique to whoever happens to be reading at the time.” -Ethan Nicolle, creator of Axe Cop, Bearmageddon, and Rocket Monster Story Club and editor of The Babylon Bee

This wordless picture book delights children and parents alike. Customers praised the "brilliant artwork" and "beautiful illustrations" that allow each reading to be unique, promoting storytelling and imagination. The thick, quality materials ensure durability. Multiple reviewers noted children ages 1-6 love "reading" it themselves, with one saying "My son LOVES this book."

Imagination

My son LOVES this book, there are no words so we make up a story and each time is a little different. He loves the penguin wearing a hat so much we HAVE to put a hat on his stuffed penguin when we read it. Wonderful book a child can grow with and enhance the story as they grow to capture their attention time and time again. Love the promotion of story telling and imagination!

Our whole family loves it!

This is such a sweet and beautiful book. Our sons (ages 6, 4, and 1) all read it often. It’s especially fun for the older ones to “read” to their littlest brother. I’d love to see more from Jessica Linn Evans.

Love it

My 2 year old son Malachi loves this book so much. Being a wordless book, the story is a little different each time and i think that is great for the imagination. He can tell us about the book sitting at the dinner table without having the book near us. I think his favorite scene is the racoon gives penguin the compass, he holds his hand out to me like he’s giving me an invisible compass. Great lesson about sharing there. Good job, great book. 👍🏻

Outstanding

Really brilliant artwork. We really the mute comic book style too. We get to adlib our own words. You're kinda stuck with the overall narrative, of course, but that's a good thing since the story is so meaningful! Happy with this book, and so is little Adam!

Absolutely adorable!

The illustrations are beautiful, and I love the fact that this book has no words. It means each "reading" can be unique!

Penguin Captain

The first time I read by myself and thought the penguins wanted to fish and he was thinking of a better way with a boat to get fish and I “missed” other things of the story... I was a bit confused. But that is more likely me than the book! :) The second time I read with my daughter (26 yr old) and she caught
more of the innuendoes! The third time with my husband and I think we got it now! It would’ve helped to read the blurb first of him dreaming to be a sea captain. I didn’t see that until the third time. And we are assuming he tore up the book to make the hats because being with family is the best place. Now that I am an authority on the story line- haha- my fourth and many times after reading will be to the grandkids and I am sure they and I will enjoy our imaginations as we read!

Delightful!

My three year old son loves this more than I imagined he would! The pictures inspire his little imagination, and it’s his go-to choice for quiet time “reading.”

Cutest book ever

This is the type of book I like to give to my youngsters. It's something I can "read" with them (there are no words), OR they can "read" it themselves. And the plot is easy to follow and one I want them to learn. A sweet, sweet book.

Lovely Book (and surprise delivery!)

Not only was the delivery prompt during this COVID-19 lockdown, but Canon Press included a free physical copy of John Piper’s “Coronavirus and Christ,” which was unexpectedly sweet. Thank you so much :) Penguin Sets Sail is a heartwarming book. We’re looking forward to more!

We love "Penguin Sets Sail"!

What a fantastic picture book by Jess Evans! I bought it for my 4-yr-old daughter and it was an instant hit. She easily followed the story from the vivid pictures, and quickly started "telling" the story she imagined. I plan to recommend it to our local library! Well done, Jess. :)

Love the Story! Love the Illustrations!

I love how she told a story with no words and created adventures with still pictures. This is a cute book for young kids who can't read but could easily be used for readers as well. Well done!

I am a tech teacher in Kentucky, and Jessica Linn Evans has been doing video chats with my 2nd grade classes this year. She is engages children through the screen in a unique way. Two of my girls created their own review, that I think you might like: https://youtu.be/Sjos54dLxVQ
