What does it mean to be a good grandmother? As a matter of fact, it's not just about making a mean chocolate chip cookie.

At last, a practical, Christian guide for grandmothers—and for younger women preparing for that stage of life! Since our culture is in love with immaturity, advice written for "older" women can tend to focus on changes: empty nests, new priorities, grown children getting married, etc. But the Bible tells us to focus on the things that don't change: In all seasons of life, God has good works prepared in advance for us to walk in. And whether you're a young woman, married, unmarried, widowed, middle-aged, or a great-grandma, you never quit exercising that faith in Christ. Grandkids and getting older, dinners and hospitality, mentorship and being an "in-law" all come with their own stretches of bumpy road, but faith and joy (and a little of Nancy Wilson's practical advice) go a long way. Women travelling through this season should be thinking in terms of family legacy—and in terms of eternity—as they seek godly wisdom, great joy, and a silver-haired crown of glory.

From the Book:

"So this book is for those women who are traveling, as I am, through the seasons of life with the desire to grow in grace and wisdom, with the goal to keep pressing on to be fruitful and faithful. And having passed the height of summer, and now somewhere in the autumn season, we want to look forward to all that is coming with courage. We want to continue to do our duties faithfully and cheerfully, not shrinking back, but embracing each day with thanks and humility, keeping on 'the way of righteousness.'" -From the preface

Practical Wisdom for Grandmothers

I reviewed this book to use as a resource for grandmothers in our church congregation. I am not yet in this stage of life but I have many women in my life who are struggling with balance in their relationships with their adult children and with their grandchildren. There are many of these ladies who take on so much and others who hold their families at arms length. I thought this book was a great guide for finding boundaries and order to these sometimes very complicated and emotionally charged relationships. I have given away a copy of this book and plan to order more for ladies in the church. I think any woman can find great relationship advice in this book.

Practical heart wisdom

Nancy's "The Silver Lining" is a down-to-earth call to embrace the season of grandparenting with wisdom and energy, supporting our children in their effort to raise up their children for Kingdom impact...Our seasons change, but the call to serve in love continues. I'll be returning to this book as my family expands.

Very helpful for the Christian grandmother. It helped to clarify my role in this stage of life, which was freeing for me.

Wise Counsel and Practical Examples

I purchased this book as a Mother’s Day gift for my mom and this is the review she gave me: “Enjoyed reading it and for the most part found it to be biblically sound and full of wise counsel and practical examples. The only caveat is that more attention should be given to proofreading.”

Very practical, helpful and encouraging

I bought this for my mom but read it prior to giving to her. There is a biblical way to live as a grandmother and older godly woman. I think it will be challenging for my mom and help focus on what following the Lord looks like at her age.

Helpful

For those Grandma's that love their grandchildren and really would like to have a very positive impact on them and be supportive and encouraging, this is a great guide to support that & provide suggestions of how to go about it, plus what NOT to do.
Some of us have not had great examples to follow. Some of have blind spots that we need to work on, and we aren't even aware of them. Nancy is very kind and loving in her instruction.

So encouraging!!

I loved this book. Nancy graciously speaks God’s truth in love to (us) older women. Because it is so biblical there are words of encouragement for women of every age here. It was refreshing and helpful to know our place with our children as they raise their children. And good reminders of how God always blesses obedience. A gem of a book!

Fabulous Book

I am a young mother of three and read this before sending it to my mother and dear friend who is a grandmother. I thought it was beautifully written, and very honest but in a gentle way, as Nancy always is. Both of the women I gifted it to were blessed by it. Thank you for another great read Nancy!

Super encouraging

I bought this book for my mom to encourage her, and was so encouraged myself as I skimmed through the book. I have never considered what kind of mother I want to be to my children when they are grown, or to my future kids-in-law before now. Nancy paints an inspiring and joyful picture of how beautiful and fruitful serving the Lord in the older season of womanhood can be.
