Everyone is so busy giving the classical education to you students that they have forgotten to actually tell you why it matters...

Look Inside the Book or Listen on Canon+

Rebekah Merkle knows which high school classes you like and which you roll your eyes at, which books you enjoy and which you kinda skim. That's because she went through this whole thing called classical education, too: She was a guinea pig in one of the very first classical Christian schools in the country.
Written for students by a (former) student, Classical Me, Classical Thee is lighthearted and—most importantly for you busy high-schoolers—very short. It has a simple goal: to explain why you students are doing what you do in class. (SPOILER: Grades aren't the point—you won't use your knowledge of the Iliad Book 5 every year until you die.)

What you do in class is a drill—and nobody drills for the sake of the drill. You do drills so that you can win the game. The real tragedy, though, would be if you didn't know you were doing drills... or didn't know there was a game at all.
Grades aren't the point. So drill to win.

Rebekah Merkle has dabbled in a number of occupations ranging from running her own clothing label to designing fabrics to becoming a full-time high school humanities teacher (which is fitting, because she was a student in one of the founding classical Christian schools in the USA). Rebekah is also the author of the book Eve in Exile, but by far her proudest accomplishment is her crew of five outrageous, hilarious, high-speed teenage children, and her favorite role is that of wife to her similarly outrageous, hilarious, and high-speed husband Ben Merkle.

Classical Me is a Core Reader in our school

This seemingly light read gave our high schoolers a strong reason and encouragement to keep going in their classical Christian journey. The feedback from our high school students led us to add this book as part of our core reading for entering freshmen.

A Quick Read to Refocus

I incorporated this quick read into our homeschool, in preparation for my student’s eighth grade completion. It was really interesting and to the point. It helped us refresh the objectives behind choosing this style of education, and encouraged us to keep reaching and growing.
Classical education is an asset to help him understand the pursuit of God, and reason for running the unique race the Lord has set before him; so whether he is called to work as a father, a shepherd, a doctor, a garbage collector…he can live a life that glorifies God and builds the Kingdom.
Thank you, Rebekah!
