Rachel Jankovic wants terrible teenage daughters.

Not a wasting-her-time-in-petty-squabbles, doomscrolling, dumb television shows, eating disorders, and foolish crushes kind of terrible.

But a different kind of terrible: to be women who are genuine threats to the enemies of God, “fair as the moon . . . and terrible as an army with banners” (Song 6:10). She is not easily controlled by flattery; her joy is in the Lord. She is growing from a girl you love into a woman you admire.

In this book Rachel covers the topics you would expect, like Modesty and Homemaking and Boys. But Rachel also speaks directly to awkward questions such as Handsiness and Pornography. There’s even a chapter on how to deal with self-righteous church ladies.

Young women have all the time in the world for good things, but they really just don’t have time to be dumb.

Just what my girls needed!

This book came out just in time for my daughter to turn 13- going to lead a summer girls book club with her friends (13-18). This book is even helping me love the standard! Thank you Rachel and Canon+

Excited for my daughters to read it

As a dad of teenage daughters, I wanted to read the book before I gave it to them. The book covers a wide variety of topics that I know my teen girls need to be equipped and empowered to walk victoriously through. While not exhaustive on the topics, the perspective is Christ-centered, and presented in a way that will help them think properly and then act accordingly. Excited for them to read it and to hear the truths they have been taught at home reiterated from the perspective of another godly woman.

Hot topis that need to be discussed

Great book! My daughter was excited to read it and so was I :) brings up important topics to discuss, that will make you both uncomfortable at times. But we want them as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. I believe that's the goal of this book! They need to hear from us on these topics, first, not last- they will hear about them either way! So why not openly discuss them? Teen girls need us talking about the struggles and sins of youth.

Worth it.

Half of these chapters are some of the best, most direct, most sound teaching ever written for Christian teen girls. Reminiscent of Elisabeth Elliot's no nonsense approach. What a blessing to have someone other than just me, articulate it to my daughters (who said they liked the conversational letter format). The other half is primarily homemaking advice. Good. But not nearly as indispensable. That said, those first chapters make the book worth it.

Great book!

My girls (13 & 16) and I watched the webinar together and read the book, and I'm so glad! We talked about some important ideas we had never discussed before. Afterwards they were both asking me what we're going to read and talk about next. There are topics in this book I haven't heard other authors address. I especially love that Rachels places a high value on learning the domestic arts and creating a home while ALSO teaching our girls to be confident young women who aren't afraid to say no or take charge of an awkward situation. If you have teenage daughters, this is well worth your time!

Wonderful read

I cannot say that I’d agree with every statement in the book on its own, some things unsettled me. HOWEVER, if you listen to the webinars where Rachel elaborates (especially on the handsiness chapter) you’ll understand what she’s saying much better.

There is so much undeniable honesty and practicalness to the book. Not every chapter will be relatable to all of us women that read it but wouldn’t we all rather read of a scenario first before experiencing it? With biblical and practical foreknowledge?

Hope this review helps, awesome work Rachel.

Excellent resource for teens & moms!

My daughters and I have truly enjoyed the layout of the letters, which have led to great conversations as they process how to grow into who God has called them to be as young ladies in this world.
I have so appreciated the Biblical insight of a mom who has gone before me!

Difficult format to follow, felt forced.

I absolutely loved Rachel’s previous book, and looked forward to using this book as a discussion with other moms in our community group. However, the book was a very awkward read. In trying to make it a “letter format,” it was difficult to follow along and find the content that was being presented on each topic. The “story” of Aunt to Niece felt very forced, and it did not lend itself to understanding the topic better. The unclarity of what was being asked about each topic by the young girl made it even more difficult to follow the flow of truth related to each topic. The webinars were the redeeming factor of trying to go through this book, which made me even more disappointed that the information wasn’t just presented more clearly in the written format. While there may have been some helpful tips for the topics, I wouldn’t recommend this book as a resource to a friend. I would have loved to have had a clearer presentation of the truths related to each chapter. In speaking with several other ladies in the group who also were reading and watching along, we all echoed the same idea- the format was more distracting than helpful and made it difficult to walk through.

Great resource!

My girls are still 6 and 2, but since I've gained so much wisdom from Rachel's parenting books, I instantly bought this one to begin reading. It is so helpful even though we are not in the teenage years, and as a mom, has given me language to begin using pieces of even now with my 6 year old. I feel it helps me as a mom, and I plan to gift a copy of it to my teenage niece soon. Highly recommend!

My teenage daughter appreciates the ideas presented in this book. She is thinking of starting a book club with friends to discuss book. It’s encouraging and challenged girls to use their teenage years wisely. The recipes in the book are a bonus.
