I literal thought Cannon Press was selling dimes bags lol. Thank God they are not.

Was great to read; quick, easy reading, like reading some of Doug's blog posts. It was so good and succinct that I have already lent the book to some friends.

Pastor Doug brought out some interesting viewpoints that I hadn't yet though of. He writes in a way that is easy to read and makes you laugh.

This recalibrated my thinking on marijuana, alcohol, coffee, and a host of other things. Pastor Wilson's case is laid out biblically and precisely. It's directed at one substance, but there are worldview matters addressed throughout. Bravo and thank you!

I enjoyed the book of very much. As always, Doug Wilson raises a lot of good points, and does so in an entertaining way that keeps the reader's attention! I can't say I agree with everything in the book ( like "marijuana alters the mind unlike alcohol, tobacco,and nicotine") but I will say it was still an otherwise informative read and it's good that he's bringing awareness to what can happen with marijuana abuse. Even though marijuana is one of the few vices that I have no experience with myself I one of my cousins who used to be addicted told me he had to quit his job and literally lay in bed for two weeks straight to break free of his addiction. Also a co-worker ive known for 10 years at the UPS warehouse has had a number done on him over the years by marijuana. Every day he comes in to work extremely hot headed and aggressively Moody at the beginning of the shift until after break (when hes smoked a joint or 2)then he's a completely different person and very pleasant one to be around. Doug Wilson should write a similar book based on the effects of "adderall" and potential side effects and dangers that come with the use and abuse of it.

Important Book

A small book easy to read and took 3-4 sittings to finish. Exactly what I was looking for. It was kind Providence that a friend referred me the title after learning I was having cannabis discussions with an opposing minded co-worker.
Douglas Wilson has a clear,biblical black and white perspective on important matters like this which in times like this is a huge gift.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I was moving from a state where pot is still illegal, to a state where it is not. I had concerns as a believer and wanted to learn what Wilson had to say on the issue. I wanted to be better prepared to face the conversation within the church, if needed.

With the world relaxing significantly in its view of pot, it's good to hear a biblical perspective on it.

We purchased this book specifically to help answer the question of why alcohol is biblically acceptable and cannabis is not. Our question was thoroughly answered. We have subsequently been able to have many productive conversations with both Christians and non-Christians on this topic. Thanks!

I picked up this book when I had a friend tell me that there is no difference between smoking weed and drinking alcohol. This book armed me with an apologetic allowing me to defend the use of alcohol using the Bible and parse the differences that set it apart from cannabis.

Pastor Wilson approached the subject thoughtfully and biblically, giving many reasons why the marijuana issue is not one to be brushed away lightly by freedom-loving Americans, even if they consider themselves libertarians. Good, quick read, and a book to pass along to those uninformed influencers in our lives.

The book is a good read. Easy to get through and there is it's big downfall. I feel like it should have been more dense and could easily could have been twice the size.

The page count of this work must seriously be taken into account when considering both the quality of this book and what it portrays it will be deliver. Having said that this book does not get in-depth on any aspect of the cannabis conversation from any aspect of the conversation (e.g., medicinally, psychologically, pastorally, socially, economically, politically). The entire book could have been divided into a longer preface and introductory chapter to a much larger work. It is useful for what it is -

As a Christian in a state where pot is legal and thriving, and members of our church use it freely, I needed help on knowing how to think about this. Thank you!

Wilson has good arguments, specifically the biblical prohibition of intoxication. I wanted a bit more from the book, maybe more from the natural law side of the house, but otherwise this is a solid read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Mr. Wilson’s arguments were cogent, Scriptural, and challenging. May it receive a wide reading!

I was already convinced against Big Marijuana and the push to intoxicate (ensnare) our neighbors, but Pastor Doug's thorough examination of the issue makes this a slam dunk.

It was a much needed level headed argument that needs to be included in the debate. One that takes a moral stand against the recreational use of drugs, while also taking a stand against the over criminalization of drug use. The biggest problem with the book is that it was just an introduction to Doug’s argument, a lot more needs to be fleshed out concerning a theology of drug use recreationally and medically. What part does Pharmakia, Eastern Paganism, and Occult worship play in the current push by both Legal Pharmaceutical Drug Pushers and Illegal Drug Traffickers to get people and societies on drugs? What is the biblically appropriate medical use for drugs for illnesses, and what is the propaganda by both legal and illegal drug pushers? Big Pharma and Drug Cartels both want people high and controlled, and on a metaphysical level, want to experiment contacting the other side spiritually on real people, but they cover up their true intentions with propaganda of either “public health” or “maximum personal liberty”. Are there demonic ramifications on our society’s over reliance on drug use as a cure for ailments?

This book really lays out the case for the issues with marijuana. It brings out the facts, has the impeccable logic that Doug Wilson always brings to the table, and most importantly makes the Christian case on the subject. It defuses the bad analogy that compares marijuana to alcohol. It busts a lot of the myths that have penetrated our culture and lays them bare. It has a great chapter on the meanings of liberty. If you want to understand the issue from a Christian perspective this is the book to start with.

I have read several of Doug's books and have never failed to profit from them. I have always enjoyed his sense of wit as well. However in reading this book I found his descriptions of marijuana users to be offensive. It is my personal belief (based on more than opinion) that there are legitimate uses such as severe depression and PTSD that can be helped by marijuana. I don't believe that referring to people who out of desperation due to chronic pain use pot and find relief as living in smoke filled basements that smell of urine is helpful. No one denies that there are potheads but lets be aware that after twenty years of war there are plenty of folks in desperate need of relief and for some pot provides that relief. To them and those like them, I believe we should show charity.

Very helpful and clear on the topic. I only wish the scripture references weren't in KJV, made it much harder to understand. He does a good job of explaining the answers to the common objections.
