The books of Samuel—familiar stories like David and Goliath, Saul and Jonathan, Absalom and Joab—look forward to Jesus, the son of David.
Look Inside the Book
In this book, Peter Leithart offers a typological reading of Samuel as a unified book. By giving careful attention to the book's literary structures and patterns of types and antitypes, Leithart reveals the deeper meanings within the text. Not only does he show how the life of David not only has lessons for us in how to live our own lives, but he also shows how the books of Samuel look forward to the suffering and glorification of Jesus Himself.
What People Are Saying
"For those in the Church or seminary who may find academic treatments of the minutiae of 1–2 Samuel somewhat burdensome and impractical, Leithart’s A Son to Me may provide grist for fresh thought and exploration of ideas that are not only of immeasurable relevance, but are 'useful for correction, reproof, and training in righteousness' (p. 23). Indeed, they may find the 'Scripture . . . unleashed to function as revelation' (p. 23)." -Ralph K. Hawkins, Bethel College, Review in The Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society
"Nobody writes on the Israelite monarchy like Leithart ... and the connections he makes are often breathtaking." -Andrew Wilson, columnist and co-author of Echoes of Exodus
