The Antidote to the Ails of Life

Pertinear any issue we face, especially as American Christians, stems from our lack of contentment. At its core, this is a lack of faith that God is sovereign, and that He is good. As a typical puritan, Burroughs masterfully dissects discontentment and shows it for the ugly sin that it is. He then shows the many glorious sides of the jewel that is Christian contentment. This book has helped me greatly as I have faced various temptations to complain and be discontent. If you struggle with contentment, I can not recommend The Rare Jewel enough!

A precious book!

I hadn't realized what a treasure contentment is before beginning to read this book, and I had no idea how terribly I needed it. I thought I was a fairly content person, albeit struggling with "a tiny bit" of complaining and anxiety (turns out, a little of that goes a long way). This book has taught me that a lot of my so-called contentment was superficial. That's great, because the real contentment I'm learning now is not just sweeter itself, it sweetens everything else!

Also, this is definitely a good quality paperback. The writing style is detailed but not dense.

This is a great book. Exceeded expectations in its clear language and practical application. As with all the books in the series, the book itself is a well-made, highly readable edition.

An Object of Worth

As a young, healthy and active man, I can say: I love the idea of marriage. I am a man who wants a wife, badly. I have spent the better part of two years embittered by God's providence. Relationship after relationship, I am bitter. Month after month, I am bitter. Prayer after prayer, I am bitter. When marriage seemed to me as bleak as an arctic gust over an icy cliff, this book flew into my lap. And, I must say, there has been no cooler stream of water upon my steaming, embittered heart. Like a young pup who must wait for the motion of it's Master's hand, this book has taught me how to sit. This book, rare indeed, is an object of worth. I have treasured every page.
