THE CHRISTIAN HERITAGE SERIES: The authors in the Christian Heritage Series paid a high price for the words you see before you. Not all paid with blood, but each spent his life fighting for the truth. This faithful sacrifice has become a rich inheritance for the Church in our day, even though it is often neglected. The Christian Heritage Series aims to put these important theological classics on every Christian’s bookshelf in colorful, well-crafted, and affordable volumes, with introductions written by those that love the books and their heritage.

“[Ryle] was a beast. His sturdy frame stood well over six foot. He was an accomplished oarsman and co-captain of a cricket team. And he wasn’t just athletically disciplined—he excelled in academics, always near the top of his class. His physical and intellectual prowess is all the more impressive when you consider that he came from a wealthy family. He could have chosen to live as a mollycoddled rich boy, but instead he pursued a life of rigor. Ryle was tough by choice. Ministry wasn’t a way for him to escape manliness, but rather to exercise it.” ~from Michael Foster’s Introduction

Look Inside the Book

Solomon says that the glory of young men is their strength (Prov. 20:29). Young men have so much to give the Church, but sadly the modern Church has taught them nothing about how to exercise their strength in a godly way.

This book by 19th century pastor J.C. Ryle is short, but gives young men what they need: straight talk about being a Christian man.

Ryle does not mince words when describing the temptations to pride, lust, laziness, and more. The devil is like a roaring lion who wants to devour young men, and the only way to defeat him is to fight sin and be like Jesus.

This classic is a powerful reminder from a wise man about how to be strong in the Lord and to give no opportunity to the devil. Read it and go, fight, win.

“Young men, this enemy is working hard for your destruction, however little you may think it. You are the prize for which he is specially contending for. He foresees you must either be the blessings or the curses of your day, and he is trying hard to effect a place in your hearts early in your life, in order that you may help advance his kingdom each day.… Whether you will hear or not, I cannot, dare not, leave you alone.” ~ J.C. Ryle

Customers praised this book as "timeless wisdom" offering biblical guidance for young and older men alike. Described as "straight to the point" and "full of meat," reviewers found it relevant across generations. Some noted minor printing errors and binding quality issues. Highly recommended for discipleship and personal growth.

Infinitely Relevant

Ryle’s admonitions and exhortations for the young men of the church do not age. They are well worth considering and returning to again and again.

As an 80 year old woman who is giving this book to her granddaughter's boyfriend, I would say the book is relevant and just what he needs to hear. Other than a few errors in the printing process, I highly recommend this book.

Timeless Wisdom

J.C. Ryle may have lived in the 1800s but this is almost all of the biblical wisdom you could compile and give to yourself in your teen years if you could and hope that you would heed and obey. Absolutely timeless wisdom to a young man (or a new believing man) from a more seasoned man.

Wisdom From The Past

A short and sweet message from Ryle with timeless wisdom for young men of any generation. It is fun to see how the young men of his 19th century were the precursors to those of today. May God save His people.

Straight to the point and full of meat, I loved it

It was short but so full, straight to the point, and communicated very well. It will be one of the first works I recommend on the subject.

Straight to the point

The book is a short read, which I contribute to the Author not wasting words. J.C. Ryle lays out sever specific topics we wants to address with Young Men, and then proceeds to offer it with no fluff. I enjoyed the book, nothing new - but plenty to be reminded of. Also the conviction of why have I applied so little of the "common" knowledge he presented.

Excellent Handbook for Becoming a Godly Man

This is a very good book. It is not only thought provoking and instructional, but also easy to read and understand. It is essentially a handbook on becoming and being a righteous and godly man. As a young man, it was very influential for me.

Every young man should read this book!

I loved J.C. Ryles straight forward advice for men. I found it immensely encouraging and challenging. Ryles pushes young men to give their all for their King and waste none of their youth on world and the devil. I will definitely be reading this with my high school guys at our Bible study. Thanks Cannon Press for publishing this book and the epic cover art that it comes in.

A book for every young, old or anywhere in between, man.

Wish I have ran into this book many many years earlier. Every single man who names the name of Christ needs to read this book. The earlier in age the better. What a blessing and stark reminder of what is required of the man of God from the cradle to the grave.

If you are wondering and asking questions on what's the whole point of Christianity and how it relates to your life as a man, this book is a must.

Encouraging book

Ryle’s book was an encouraging exhortation of not just young men, but men of all ages from its original publication to the present day. I went through this book with a friend of mine who is about to graduate High School, and this book was of great encouragement and caution to him — he is growing more in his faith in the past year than he has ever done before I think. I also wrote a small devotional for a gathering of Christian men I hang out with on Saturday mornings at a local diner, in which Thoughts For Young Men was very helpful in providing me a perspective that the guys at this breakfast (all decades older than myself) could really benefit from. I would recommend Ryle’s book to teenagers as well as grandfathers.

Fantastic.

Older books are great to see the deficiencies in the modern trends within American Evangelicalism. Praise God for faithful men we can learn from.
