Douglas Wilson is the minister of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho, which is a member of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC). He is a Senior Fellow of theology at New St. Andrews College and the author of numerous books, including Reforming Marriage, The Case for Classical Christian Education, and When the Man Comes Around. He and his wife Nancy have three children and a horde of grandchildren.

I like the short chapters because it helps you focus on the topic at hand. It helped me learn the history around his life and at the same time the man. How he fit into and reacted to the events of his lifetime were well presented.
This book is excellent both as a biographical resource as well as being an a stirring depiction of a great reformer as an example for modern reformers.
This was a wonderful read. As a history major in college I noticed how there were two figures whose importance was undeniable but who were roundly vilified and despised: John Calvin and John Knox. Of the two even among the historically astute Knox is something of the forgotten man. This wonderful book goes a long way towards remedying that. A fine and encouraging book, especially for our time.
I bought this book after already having read some of the more well known biographies on Knox and it was a welcome addition to my book shelf. One thing I love about Doug is his ability to show people what we can learn from history and how to apply it rightly in our own times. I wish the courage of John Knox was more abundant today but the first step in creating that courage is showing people what it looked like. Doug did a great job and because of him I’m proudly more stubborn in these tumultuous times.

I had no idea how impactful John Knox was on the reformation. Right up there with Martin Luther, and John Calvin. I think the thing I liked most about the book was the shorter length of each chapter, which helped me blitz read through the book, rather than having to devote an entire hour for each section, I was able to read it over 14 days 7-10 minutes at a time. The book is divided into two sections, the first half as a general biography, the second half as a bullet for bullet breakdown of specific categories that his life exhibited. Doug Wilson is clear and concise, and brings his own unique wit and charm to the book. I would absolutely recommend to you, and buy a few extra copies for other men in your life who need a little Scottish Reformation zing in their life.
Love Doug Wilson’s writing and his view of John Knox. Shows a side of John many probably never realized. Highly recommend this book and Canon Press
