How would you describe the spiritual aroma of your home?

Look Inside the Book or Listen on Audible*

The First Book in the Family Series

The source of this aroma is the relationship between husband and wife. Many can fake an attempt at keeping God's standards in some external way. What we cannot fake is the resulting, distinctive aroma of pleasure to God.

Reforming Marriage does what few books on marriage do today: it provides biblical advice. Whether it has to do with respect and love, confession of sin, sexual fidelity, or even the gnarly issues of divorce and remarriage, Douglas Wilson points to the need for obedient hearts on the part of both husbands and wives. This book is part of the Canon Press series of books on the family, which has helped many people trying to deal with the on the everyday messes that come with sinners living under the same roof. Godly marriages proceed from obedient hearts, and the greatest desire of an obedient heart is the glory of God.

What People Are Saying:

"Great book. I've used this book for 15+ years for pre-marriage and marriage counseling. I must have given away close to 100 copies over the years. The truths in this book are timeless and relevant for today's world!" -Charles

"The teaching in this book has transformed my marriage and opened my eyes to God's plan for me as a godly husband." -Chris

"Shortly after my husband and I got married, our selfishness began to show as we began to pick each other apart and argue endlessly. I knew we would soon be divorced if something didn't change - FAST! That is when God laid it on my heart to seek out what it meant to be a godly wife, and start fixing our brand new marriage by starting with my own self first. Between the books, The Fruit of Her Hands by Nancy Wilson, and her husband's book, Reforming Marriage, my attitude was transformed, our marriage began its repair, and now I am sincerely in love with the man I married." -a reader

"very eye-opening and very helpful to me personally" -a reader

"I have purchased 5 or 6 copies of this book and have given them away to engaged couples over the years." -a reader

"Reforming Marriage has been the single most valuable book in preserving my own marriage.... Mr. Wilson takes the traditional Biblical teaching that husbands should have authority over their families—but plunges into the meaning of this in a way that left me no room for pride. The book revealed many areas of selfishness, shirking responsibility, and unloving treatment of my wife." -a reader

"Immediately began bearing fruit in my marriage." -a reader

Best marriage book after many good books

My wife and I have read many good books on marriage. This has been the best for us and the most biblically insightful. It encourages a practical out working of biblical principles because in nails the roles and responsibilities of the sexes so well. The teaching on abdication and the role of man towards the task/plow and wife towards the man have been very helpful in our marriage.

One of the best books on marriage

I feel like this kinda of literature isn’t broad
The common instruct on marriage that I’ve learn didn’t have much meat.
When reading this book I felt like it was untouched recourses just waiting to be tapped into.
Very thankful

God's design

This book remains superior in its exhortation to husbands toward efficacious love in imitation of Christ's love on the cross vs. the modern church's emphasis of the inefficacious "sentiment of Christ's love" (p. 148). Its countercultural exhortation to wives toward their God-given roles as helpers and respecters of their husbands to whom God has given the covenantal responsibility for their households is most needed today. Doug Wilson speaks plainly and effectively on what this looks like so that even if a couple is not there yet, each spouse can see the marriage-path toward glorifying God laid out in His Word. When we line ourselves up with God's design, the power of the cross is effective! We need this straight talk.

Reforming Marriage

My husband and I both read this book and absolutley loved it. We have been married for almost 28 years and we have never found a resource that opened our eyes to biblical marriage than this book. We are now reading through it again together, one chapter at a time at night and then we discuss. I highly reccomend this book no matter what stage you are in your marriage. I’ve recommended it to my 19 yr old to read so they have a mindset of what biblical marriage is. I wish this had a study guide because as part of our church’s marriage ministry team, we’d love to teach this in a small group.

Really challenging but so sweet!

My husband and I listened to this together on the Canon app, then bought a hard copy for a family member. This book applies scripture to marriage in a way that challenges me to consider whether I’m willing to take God’s words seriously. The Lord has blessed us with joy as we have learned to live by these principles. Our pastor loves this book and so do we!
