"I don't pull punches or hold back in this book, because I am writing to myself as much as to you. If something in this book strikes a little close to home for you, know that it struck in my home first."
In this follow up to Loving the Little Years, Rachel Jankovic pushes her parenting "field notes" out onto the skinny branches of motherhood. Fit to Burst is chock-full of humorous examples and fresh advice covering issues familiar to every mom such as guilt cycles, temptations to be ungrateful or bitter, and learning how to honor Jesus by giving in the mundane things. But this book also addresses less familiar topics, including the impact that moms have on the relationships between dads and kids, the importance of knowing when to laugh at kid-sized sin, and more.
Fit to Burst will help us to be moms who parent with the story in mind rather than snapshot, who know how to both give and require much from their children in the everyday mayhem, and who understand the importance of biscuits.

What People Are Saying:
"One of my favorite reads of the year, if such a pronouncement can by made by a guy about a book by a woman for women." -John Piper, Desiring God
"Fit to Burst highlights a mother's need to rely on Christ as she joyfully feeds hungry tummies, honors her husband, and trains her children. Rachel's artful encouragement highlights the sufficiency of Christ for these things and gives us a clarion call to faithfulness in the midst of everyday motherhood." -Gloria Furman, author of Glimpses of Grace: Treasuring the Gospel in Your Home
"If you liked Loving the Little Years, you will like Fit to Burst even more. It was one of my favorite reads of the year (if a guy can say that about a book written by a woman for women)." -Tony Reinke, author of Lit!: A Christian Guide to Reading Books
"With humor and candor, Jankovic provokes us to allow Scripture to define our way of thinking rather than the world’s truisms—or our own feelings. She applies biblical paradoxes to motherhood: Give to be full; worship amid laundry mountains; express gratitude in apparent lack; overcome discouragement with obedience; embrace trials for growth; train—both ourselves and our children—in the tension of law and grace; rather than listen to our weary souls, feed them with Psalms and hymns. Thus we unlock unspeakable joy and fulfillment in our work as mothers." -Mary Jackson, World Magazine
"a quick read filled with meaty, thought-provoking discussion about the divine in everyday life for a young and growing family." -Kristen Narara, The Gospel Coalition
Rachel Jankovic is a wife and mother of seven children. She is heavily involved with the Christ Church Ladies' Bible Reading Challenge, and she is author of Loving the Little Years: Motherhood in the Trenches and You Who? Why You Matter and How to Deal with It.

This book is a read and re-read for me. I just love how Rachel sees the real sins that creep up in mothering and is unflinching in digging them out.
I've bought extra copies for ladies in my church.
The insight in this book was a blessing to me several years ago and now I've purchased it for my daughter in law who is pregnant with our first grandchild. :) I know it will bring her wisdom and joy in parenting just as it did for me.
disclaimer: I haven't finished reading yet but almost! The chapters about biscuits and stop freaking out about food (paraphrased) lit a fire under me to make a delicious and sticky treat for my girls which helped us laugh and feast together (mostly on sugar) and really warmed up our stupidly cold weather day...and our souls. To quote Rachel, "fat souls are more important than clean floors."
