What does it mean to be a covenantal husband? What does it mean to be a covenantal father?

Federal thinking is foreign to the modern mind. Federal has come to mean nothing more than centralized or big. Because our federal government has become so uncovenantal, it is not surprising that the original meaning of the word is lost. But federal thinking is the backbone of historic Protestant theology, and the Church needs to recover the covenantal understanding of federal headship. Husbands are to lead their families, taking responsibility for them as covenant heads—as federal husbands.

This book is a part of Douglas Wilson's series of books on the family, which has helped many people trying to deal with the everyday messes that come with sinners living under the same roof. This book on covenantal headship contains much practical and biblical wisdom that is never more timely than now, but which we will always need to be reminded of again and again.

How would you describe the spiritual aroma of your home?

The source of this aroma is the relationship between husband and wife. Many can fake an attempt at keeping God's standards in some external way. What we cannot fake is the resulting, distinctive aroma of pleasure to God.

Reforming Marriage does what few books on marriage do today: it provides biblical advice. Whether it has to do with respect and love, confession of sin, sexual fidelity, or even the gnarly issues of divorce and remarriage, Douglas Wilson points to the need for obedient hearts on the part of both husbands and wives. This book is part of the Canon Press series of books on the family, which has helped many people trying to deal with the on the everyday messes that come with sinners living under the same roof. Godly marriages proceed from obedient hearts, and the greatest desire of an obedient heart is the glory of God.

Hot topis that need to be discussed

Great book! My daughter was excited to read it and so was I :) brings up important topics to discuss, that will make you both uncomfortable at times. But we want them as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. I believe that's the goal of this book! They need to hear from us on these topics, first, not last- they will hear about them either way! So why not openly discuss them? Teen girls need us talking about the struggles and sins of youth.

Just what my girls needed!

This book came out just in time for my daughter to turn 13- going to lead a summer girls book club with her friends (13-18). This book is even helping me love the standard! Thank you Rachel and Canon+

Very Helpful

Filled with scripture and practical application of God’s word regarding wise use of our time.

No Time to be Dumb: Letters to Teenage Girls

Loved this book!

My daughters and I really enjoyed this book. Would highly recommend to any teens girls and young adults.

My husband bought this for me as a gift. It is lovely. An exceptional daily reminder of God’s word.

No Time to be Dumb: Letters to Teenage Girls

Very helpful!

I am not single myself but have shared this and am reading through it with a friend. It has been so helpful in helping me to understand the plight of singles AND has helped reshape my friend's thoughts and emotions as well! Thank you!

Great book!

My girls (13 & 16) and I watched the webinar together and read the book, and I'm so glad! We talked about some important ideas we had never discussed before. Afterwards they were both asking me what we're going to read and talk about next. There are topics in this book I haven't heard other authors address. I especially love that Rachels places a high value on learning the domestic arts and creating a home while ALSO teaching our girls to be confident young women who aren't afraid to say no or take charge of an awkward situation. If you have teenage daughters, this is well worth your time!

Awesome sauce!

My son (he’s two) and I love, love this book. I can’t get enough of the pictures, the illustrations are gorgeous! I love the detail put into each page. I notice new things every time I read it. It’s a feast to look at. The story is really fun and engaging, and teaches a good lesson in an exciting way.

Toddler son loves it!

My son loves this book, and so do I! Both the writing and the illustrating are lovely. It’s fun and cheerful and a relevant story for little ones (and grown ups, too!).

Why Children Matter

I loved the book and as a grandmother of 8, I wish I had read it when I was raising my three sons. Although my husband and I did a lot of things right, I think the reasons you provide behind the recommendations are true and subtle. It would have been reaffirming in some situations and instructive in others.

Wordsmithy: Hot Tips for the Writing Life

A must order

Excellent books. Engaging for all ages. Our 11 and 9 year old boys are soaking them up. We put them right up there with ‘Battles for Boys.’

Thank you cannon press! Please come out with more kids books that aren’t “kiddy!”

No Time to be Dumb: Letters to Teenage Girls

Wonderful read

I cannot say that I’d agree with every statement in the book on its own, some things unsettled me. HOWEVER, if you listen to the webinars where Rachel elaborates (especially on the handsiness chapter) you’ll understand what she’s saying much better.

There is so much undeniable honesty and practicalness to the book. Not every chapter will be relatable to all of us women that read it but wouldn’t we all rather read of a scenario first before experiencing it? With biblical and practical foreknowledge?

Hope this review helps, awesome work Rachel.

The Cultural Mind

Excellent resource for teens & moms!

My daughters and I have truly enjoyed the layout of the letters, which have led to great conversations as they process how to grow into who God has called them to be as young ladies in this world.
I have so appreciated the Biblical insight of a mom who has gone before me!

My Dear Hemlock

Great resource!

My girls are still 6 and 2, but since I've gained so much wisdom from Rachel's parenting books, I instantly bought this one to begin reading. It is so helpful even though we are not in the teenage years, and as a mom, has given me language to begin using pieces of even now with my 6 year old. I feel it helps me as a mom, and I plan to gift a copy of it to my teenage niece soon. Highly recommend!
