The tools that helped Christians stop wringing their hands about their kids' educations and actually do something about it.

Published almost twenty years ago, Douglas Wilson’s Case for Classical Christian Education is a call for parents and educators to do more than just teach kids how to read or to do math and science. Instead, parents and teachers need to educate children’s minds, hearts, and imaginations.

Both homeschooling parents and Christians seeking to build schools will find a lot of guidance from this book. Wilson explains the benefits of an education that is both distinctively classical and distinctively Christian and what such an education might look like. He also draws on years of educating and pastoring to talk about how parents and teachers can manage schools well and train their children’s hearts.

Education is not just preparing kids for the job market, but should be about instilling discipline, character, and love for God and the world He has made.

Thirty years ago, Doug Wilson wrote Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning so that Christian parents could stop wringing their hands at the deterioration of American education and actually do something to resist it.

That resistance begins with getting our children out of public secular schools, but it doesn't end there. We must also give our kids a thoroughly biblical education with the lordship of Jesus Christ at the center. The best structure for that education, Wilson argues, is the classical structure.

And so the classical Christian education movement in America was born. Since the publication of this book, hundreds of classical Christian schools have been started (both nationally and internationally), and hundreds of thousands of homeschooling families have turned to classical Christian education as well.

Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning , originally published by Crossway in 1991, has been republished by Canon Press.

Fun and engaging!

This curriculum was everything I needed it to be. Hands on, versatile, multiple students at once, all inclusive, and easily modified for my needs. We don’t use the lab book for each student. They have their own science journals they keep record of things in. We use the lab book and teachers manual mainly for group answering and as an experiment guide.

My kindergartener loves it!

My kindergartener loves these short fun books. His face gleams with pride every time he gets to put a sticker on the map. Love it!

While I like the included hymns, this product is WAY overpriced and the shipping price is even worse. I won't order from Canon Press again. I believe they are taking advantage of the Christian market, and that's a shame.

Great book! I am learning so much along side my child.

Very good - but a little unexpected

Thorough. Biblical. Covenantal. What I could not understand was how to use it at home. The lessons and manual seem to assume 1) prior biblical knowledge and 2) that you offer one long lesson a week.
I may have had the wrong expectations, but there you have it

Chikcadee Readers: My First Stories

This box set is the perfect way to start Tiny Humans on their reading journey! Everything you need is contained in one beautifully organized box.

great for multiple ages

This reading guide is very thorough. I was able to go through the book with my 2nd grader as well as with my 3rd grader. It comes with tests that were perfect to test comprehension with my 3rd grader. For my 2nd grader I simply recited the questions from the test as we went through the book together.

Chickadee Readers: My First Stories

Cute Stories!

My daughter really enjoyed this collection. It was perfect for early readers and helps give them the confidence they need to become great readers. I liked how each book had a fun story that kept my little girl’s attention.

EDITED REVIEW:
Customer service is amazing. Along with leaving this review I emailed their company about the damage to the outside of the box set. They were shocked because it does not happen often and offered to replace the decorative box cover for the books! I will even moreso be recommending this company not only for their well though out readers and phonics cards BUT also for their amazing customer service.

The books are great! The shipping came quickly, however I personally believe for the price you pay for the books that they could be better protected in shipping. The books come in a clear cellophane bag and the storage for the set is thin cardboard. So from transit the box gets beaten on the edges. If you have no plan of keeping them in the box for storage and looks then this would not be a concern. I love the look and plan on keeping it all together, so it is visually bothersom.

cute colorful book set

this book set is so cute and aesthetic while still stimulating babies to learn

An excellent provision.

This is going to be our first year using ‘Mammoth Math’, perhaps a review would be better placed after a a little time spent trialling it. I look forward to using the resource, it seems quite brilliant!

LOVE IT!

I have a 4, 7, and 9 year old and they all LOVE chickadee readers books. I already see them growing their interest for reading!

It is absolutely beautiful!

First grade STARTER PACK

The content is quite impressive however since I purchased it as a starter pack I assumed I was getting everything I needed. It did not come with lesson plans (separate purchase)and since I needed guidance I went ahead and got that separately. Upon getting those, I realized it did not come with multiple other books that are included in the lesson plans. I understand I may not have had to but I didn’t want to not be prepared. The books I’m referencing are all of the phonics materials and life of Fred books. That was a bit disappointing as I thought I was going to get every single thing I needed to start our year with no extra hunting down of materials. We are very excited about the curriculum in general but if these things could be made much more clear on the site I think it would better help other families to feel a lot more prepared.

the illustrations are incredible!

I've been able to start looking through and am absolutely in love with the art and characters. Very well done!

Building such confidence in my daughter

These have been so wonderful and have given such laughs to my 6 year old as she is learning to read! The format and instructions on how to use these books have been very helpful in making sure she is mastering the skills well. We are so thankful for books that help her along and build upon themselves!

Very fast shipping

It was exactly as advertised. It was a gift for someone and tgey loved it!

Huge fan!

This was such a pleasant surprise, it’s the perfect book set to go along with our current reading curriculum. My son loves the books and it’s so hard to find an engaging story for beginner readers! The illustration is adorable and attention grabbing and the sticker chart is such a key component to motivating my young reader!

a truly life changing book

Awesome!
Loving it!
Thank you!
Your company is great!

Chickadee Readers: My First Stories

Great stories to add to your collection

The quality of the physical books and illustrations is top notch. I love the beginning sequence of short vowels. The scope and sequence isn't quite aligned with suggested phonics instruction order. However, these stories are a great option for students who are ready to apply a wider arrange of phonics skills.

Excellent!

My 4-year-old is already memorizing the letter sounds and loves to ask to practice them. We are excited to start reading the cute books! My only constructive feedback would be about the choices of some of the images- she was initially thrown off by fox for the letter X, and said "buh" for "R" because she thought the rabbit was "bunny." Otherwise, perfection!
