The tools that helped Christians stop wringing their hands about their kids' educations and actually do something about it.

Published almost twenty years ago, Douglas Wilson’s Case for Classical Christian Education is a call for parents and educators to do more than just teach kids how to read or to do math and science. Instead, parents and teachers need to educate children’s minds, hearts, and imaginations.

Both homeschooling parents and Christians seeking to build schools will find a lot of guidance from this book. Wilson explains the benefits of an education that is both distinctively classical and distinctively Christian and what such an education might look like. He also draws on years of educating and pastoring to talk about how parents and teachers can manage schools well and train their children’s hearts.

Education is not just preparing kids for the job market, but should be about instilling discipline, character, and love for God and the world He has made.

Thirty years ago, Doug Wilson wrote Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning so that Christian parents could stop wringing their hands at the deterioration of American education and actually do something to resist it.

That resistance begins with getting our children out of public secular schools, but it doesn't end there. We must also give our kids a thoroughly biblical education with the lordship of Jesus Christ at the center. The best structure for that education, Wilson argues, is the classical structure.

And so the classical Christian education movement in America was born. Since the publication of this book, hundreds of classical Christian schools have been started (both nationally and internationally), and hundreds of thousands of homeschooling families have turned to classical Christian education as well.

Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning , originally published by Crossway in 1991, has been republished by Canon Press.

Disappointed

I love the quotes that are included in the calendar. I look forward to the new quote each day. However, I am disappointed in the quality of the materials. The pages are quite thin, so I have to be careful when I turn the pages. The cardboard frame is also flimsy and doesn't stand up well on it's own. I've had to modify it a bit so it doesn't fall over. The coil is good quality, but I don't know if the rest will hold up long-term.

Quote Calendar

Fantastic content. My wife loves it. I give it four stars because it doesn't stand up on its own very well without bending from the weight of all the cards. The inside triangle of the calendar just needs to be more sturdy. I'll probably reinforce it with some cardboard.

Crispin's Rainy Day

Incredible quality! My husband and son love them!

Daily Encouragement

I really enjoy the daily encouragement and reminders of God’s faithfulness.

Love this calendar! There are a few quotes that only make more sense in context—or can be confusing for people who haven’t listened to a particular talk or sermon.
Otherwise, they stand alone very well and are very encouraging!

Nancy has the ability to cut to the chase and offer true Biblical wisdom that is very practical and helpful! Every older (40 and up) lady needs this one! Thank you!

My wife loves it!!!

My wife loves it!!!

Historically Compelling

I ordered a dozen of these to use in study for men who are often asking the question, “How are we as Christians to engage is political discourse with our families, friends, in small groups, and at work?” Sunshine has given us an amazing war chest of insights and knowledge to more articulately engage those conversations.

The Sinking City

The Femina Daily Quote Calendar

My son loves these!

Helpful nuggets every day

My wife (and I) look forward to reading this every day. We are on our second year and bought three for friends!

Femina Quote Calendar

I have had this calendar now for over a year, and have purchased seven more as gifts over the last two Christmases. The daily encouragement (and as one of my friends put it, sometimes it's more like daily conviction!) is a real blessing that not only I value, but I notice other members of my family peeking at throughout the day. Many thanks to you for publishing it, and for the authors' wisdom shared.

Blah Blah Black Sheep

For my 6 yr old

This one is simple and great for new readers. She is very interested in reading everything and loves that she can pick this one up and read much of it. It will be one we read often, and maybe that will help understand the moral and point, for all of us. And it’s confusing when a rhyming book stops rhyming in a weird way…

What a great daily reference!

My 7 year old son’s favorite. Whenever there is complaining we reference this book and it helps snap the kids back into a more cheerful form. Cute tale, fun illustrations, and fun to read.

Christmas present

Cute story. My 7 & 6 year old really enjoyed it, especially the pictures. Personally I love the gender roles depicted and the bro/sis relationship with in those. I see it daily at my house.

A good guide for a timeless masterpiece

This is a great tool for highlighting some of the main points in each section. A second and third edition could be written and still not fully encompass Calvin’s masterpiece.

This book is truly amazing! It’s as if it puts on glasses that both zoom in and zoom out on the world at the same time! If you ever find yourself growing bored of the world around you, this book is definitely a must-read.
